    inspiron 1520 and nvidia 8600m gt problem

    i know about the nvidia chipset problems they have been having with the 8400 and 8600 video adapters....i had one person tell me that the video chip is okay...its the thermal pad on it..that it does not transfer the heat properly?
    is this true...i think i read someone had a fix for it...buy a small piece of cooper plate,and install it with artic silver ...is this info true

    also,,i saw dells list of notebooks with the bios upgrades,,for some reason the the inspiron 1520 was ommited.

    In the 1520, the GPU is removable and has its own heatsink. I believe said heatsink contacts the GPU directly, without the need for a thermal pad. Subsequently, GPU cooling on the 1520 should be sufficient, or at least better than that of other machines with faulty Nvidia chips, and this is probably why Dell doesn't see the need to add the machine on its list of bad machines.
