just got my inspiron 1520 , bought it from dell outlet...its perfect, looks new, not a thing wrong with it...

this is becoming a dated notebook,,but in my view, still as fast as 90% of em out there, i got the 8600gt video card and got a 2.4ghz t8300 coming...the notebook came with 1.5ghz core 2 duo...

sort of not like the 1280x800,but i quess i could replace it with a display from ebay...but why complain, when so many are buying 9 and 10 inch laptops with even smaller resolutions......

got this notebook for $579,,,not bad....just love the silver finish,,but many new laptops have this today with various versions of the silver and color. not sure why, but dell has quite a few with 8600gt and core2 duo 1500

one question-it does not have the nvidia sticker on it...can i buy this somewhere?

I don't think Dells come with Nvidia stickers in general. I've never seen a Dell laptop with anything other than the Windows and Intel stickers by default. You can get any sticker you want on eBay though...

Slap an SLI sticker on there and you're good to go...

If your T8300 deal doesn't work out, I have one available that I pulled out of a 1520 [also have a T7250 left over].

Actually, the 1.5GHz paired with the 8600M GT isn't too bad of a setup for some moderate gaming. I remember Toshiba releasing an X205 with a 1.8GHz T7100 (and maybe even a 1.83GHz T5550) processor as a 'budget gaming' system. They just paired an adequate processor with a powerful GPU.

The 2.4GHz T8300 will be a welcome upgrade in all non-3D tasks, though! :D

BTW, the 1520 is built very well for a budget laptop. The 1525 and 1545 that followed it aren't quite as solidly built.

One quirk, if you haven't already figured it out- one RAM slot is accessible thru a bottom panel (as on most laptops) but the second slot is underneath the keyboard. It's weird that you have to remove the keyboard to upgrade it, but it's fairly simple to do.

I actually purchased a 1525 for nephew and it is a little thinner than my brother's 1520. But the 1520's thickness and heft make it feel very solid (even though the outer shell is cheap-looking silver plastic). I have no complaints or issues with either....and they're both anvil-solid compared to the Studio 1535!

agree, the 1.5 ghz is fairly decent with 8600gt,,,the 8600gt sure helps things. i have vista basic, and 1gb ram...probably should try to upgrade to 2gb in the future....got the 5400 rpm drive..might go with 7200 rpm,....they are cheap today.

I have a Dell Latitude E6400 that originally came with an 80GB 5400rpm hard drive. I upgraded it to a 320GB 7200rpm Seagate for $79 and it's awesome!

The Studio 15/17 have no internal support structure or frame other than flimsy plastic. They flex and bend (and their motherboards do the same flexing, NOT GOOD). There's no structural rigidity at all.

The new Studio XPS 13/16 do have magnesium alloy framework to add stength.
