Even with a clean install of vista home premium on my dell inspiron 1520, my boot speeds are slow. I have timed them from after selecting vista in GRUB to the login screen.

First 30 - 40 seconds -> booting up with hdd light on and vista boot gui
From there (30s) to 1min 45s -> idles with a blank screen and no hdd light (about a minute of idling)
then the hdd light comes back on and the login screen comes in a few seconds.

Any suggestions on why this would happen. (Please don't suggest removing startup programs or services i tried that, btw once i type in my password, vista boots fast, my problem is before that). I thought this was standard, but Ubuntu boots in 30-40s, and when i run vista in virtualbox on ubuntu from my external harddrive vista will boot to login screen in just 30s. This problem has been going on since i got the laptop, so before linux, and even with a fresh install it still does this. also i was able to get it to show the boot gui the whole time while its idling by turning the gui off then back on.
