I have a dell inspiron 1525 with vista home premium 32bit. Probably 1/3 times that i shutoff(not sleep or hibernate) my computer, it turns itself on hours later. Usually the next morning I open up my laptop screen and there is the windows logon screen waiting for me to type in my password. What would be the reason for that? I'm afraid that when I travel with it the battery would die because it doesn't stay turned off.

Is it brand new? If it is, the start menu buttons and power button in vista out of the box is set on default sleep. You could change that through the power options.

I have seen this problem with the Dell Precision laptops. Try to shut it off with the adapter plugged in, in this way it will stay off.
