i am working on a inspiron 1545 for a friend, they had fallen asleep at the laptop and rolled onto the screen this cracking the mounts, and breaking the data cable to the screen, i ordered a new data cable and that didnt change anything. so i ordered a new screen. i can operate the system via an external monitor. but it will not run the internal one, i have tried to change to all the different modes and nothing changes

is there anything that i could be missing here?

    Hi,

This seems like an issue with the LCD screen or the connection. Since you have confirmed that the system gives display on an external monitor, you can eliminate the possibility of graphics card and the Motherboard failure. Please check and confirm the connections on both the ends once again. You may use the below mentioned link to view/download the Inspiron 1545 service manual and refer to the same if required.

    Documentation

I hope this helps. Please do write back in case you need any further assistance.

    Hi,

Since you have replaced the screen, motherboard and the data cable and still could not get it work, it could be either because of the connection issues or a faulty replacement part. Have you ordered these parts from Dell? You may refer to the service manual and confirm the connections are fine.
I hope this helps. Please do write back in case you need any further assistance.

    Thanks and Regards

There is a reply by alarmrepairman that is a fix, if this is what is wrong with your laptop. within a few pages there is a picture of the location of the fuse. I hope that this helps
