Hello,
My sister is having this dell or at least one with the same processor i5 540m, ram and looks so im betting she is having this model but she is not sure what one she has just googled for a bit and saw this one was a match. She is having it for 2,5 years now but has a terrible overheating problem as well as the screen flickering (webcam is also broken but that isnt too much of a problem). Sometimes under not even heavy use it turns it self because of getting too warm.
The problem is that it is very hard to get into it to give it a clean. Even someone with proper computer knowledge didnt dare taking on the challenge. After all those years with using it on the bed it is probably full of dust which really causes that over heating problem (at least that is what i think it is) Anyone got a guide or something to open up her laptop reconnect the screen plug properly and give it a good dust off and maybe repaste the CPU and maybe give her my RAM or so. Would it be possible to preform those operations for a person with moderate computer knowledge or does someone specialised better do it?
thanks!

What do you mean hard to take apart? I can take it apart blindfolded with my hands tied behind my back!
Some HP's I had here were 10x harder to disassemble.
Also, if it's a 1564 then there will be a gigantic sticker on the bottom saying INSPIRON 1564 (yes, in caps, just checked) right above the Windows 7 key sticker.
They do tend to fill up with dust and overheat, even the base ones without dgpu.
EDIT: if the webcam is broken AND the screen flickers then I suspect the screen cable as it has the webcam cable integrated into it.

I have seen videos on YouTube that show how to disassemble various models of laptops. You might find one for the 1564 if you search.

There's also a Dell Manual explaining it pretty good. I'd link to it but I'm in class right now.

machine is easy to take apart but I would clean the fan and check the thermal connection between heatpipe and CPU/GPU (if dedicated card)
