    Hi guys, I want to buy the ssd OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB for this laptop but i cannot find any information on wether the laptop will operate at sata 300 speeds and not limit it to 150. If any one has an ssd with this laptop can you please post a reply thanks

    I don't think it would check what motherboard it is under. or if any C2D has Sata 300 ...

    It should run at full SATA 3Gb/s speeds. I don't have a 1720, but I have a 1420 that runs at the full spec.

    Hmm, Commander might be right, but in my 1720, I had to run the SSD in sata mode rather then AHCI for better speeds. For some reason the SSD didn't operate as fast as in other laptops. I tested a bunch of stuff on it, but just gave up eventually. I gave it to my brother, but told him he's not allowed to sell. It was definately a nice laptop. Not much for gaming, but everything else it did well, and the SSD was a great upgrade to it.
