firstly hi to all , this is my first post

i have a dell inspiron 2200, i am having a lot of problems doing a clean install.

i need to boot into dos (no floppy) to format the hard drive and create a new partition.

i have tried booting from the xp cd but there are three partitons one of 300mb, one of 100mb and one of 35gb. the largest one i realise is where the operating system is the other two are i suppose some sort of dell stuff.

the main problem is i cant boot from dos to format the large partition(not bothered about the others as there so small), windows wont let me do it as it says there are files for installation on it.

as my support from dell has ended i am not really bothered about the default tools as supplied from dell

i just want to do a clean install wether they are there or not

i have tried all sorts of boot discs without success

i have the cd i created for os sytem recovery. bu as i say that doesnt seem to do anything but install the os over the top of the old one.

any help at all would be great

sorry for the long post, if you need any more details to help let me know

    respect and thanks
    john
