I want to add more RAM to my Inspiron 2200. It has 256 MB built-in, and (I think) has one user-accessible slot. I went to crucial.com to check them out and see what another 256 MB stick would cost, they scanned and said i don't have any open slots. Is this probably just a mistake? Would doubling the ram to 512 make a big difference or should I go ahead and get a 512 stick for a total of 768? The price difference is about $35 for a 256 stick and 75 for 512.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Personally I would go for a 512MB stick and run with 768...it is better to have more RAM, but you have to draw the limit on upgrades...if you are going to speed say $300...you can get a new laptop for around $500.

Yeah, that's the thing...the laptop itself was only about $500, so I'm kind of hesitant to spend even $75. I'll probably have the laptop at least another year, so maybe I should go ahead and get it

i would say if you are going to have it for awhile, you might as well get a 512mb stick and upgrade it. It will help your system run better and if you sell the notebook later, you could sell it for a few dollars more.

I just ordered the 512 stick with a free 256 mb jump drive. $81.31 shipped.
