    inspiron 6000 ram upgrade??

    Would it better for me just to purchase 1gb of ram and leave a 256 in there with it or get a dual 512??

    1+256 is gonna be better any day that 512+512.

    Dual channel works with mismatched pairs, but even so, it will net u only 5% more memory bandwidth in memory intensive tasks.

    I agree with adinu. The amount of RAM is almost always more important than having it in dual channel. The increase in performance is so small, theres little point in it being in dual channel. I would simply go for the one module of 1 GB and another with the size of 256 MB.
