    inspiron 600m dvd/cd

    my dvd/cd will read DVDs but will not read CDs /music or data. Is this software of hardware problems?

    Try re-seating the drive a few times? It's really strange that you can read DVDs and not CDs; usually it's the other way around. Failing the re-seating, I'd say it's probably a hardware failure; if you've got another Dell of similar age with which you can test the optical drive, I'd do that. Otherwise, these D-Series ODDs are pretty cheap on eBay; a new one won't run you much.

    I am not sure how to reset the drive---Is there switch or do yuou just remove and reinstall the drive back into it's bay?

    I'm referring to simply pulling it out and re-inserting it into the bay. Maybe take some compressed air and blow out the connectors while you're at it.
