Im seriuosly considering buying a higher end dell inspiron 6400, plan on doing some gaming (RTW, MTW2, etc), im just wondering what kind of preformance difference there is between the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5600 (1.83GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB) and the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB). Also would it be worth the 130$ to upgrade from the ATI Radeon x1400 to the NVidia Geforce GO 7300 GS, and i was to how much would graphics preformance go up. Thx

The 7300 actually performs WORSE than the X1400...nVidia/Dell is trying to rip you off.

How much does the CPU upgrade cost? What do you plan on doing with the laptop besides gaming?

The graphics card upgrade Dell is offering is pointless. The ATI Mobility X1400 is actually a faster card than the nVidia Go 7300 GS, and so theres no need for you to upgrade. Upgrading the procesor is not going to help in games either, as the graphics card is the limiting factor. However, if you plan on completing some processor dependant tasks, such as video editing or encoding, on the notebook, then a faster processor will help performance out.

Getting the 7300GS is actually a downgrade from the x1400. As for the processor, most people won't even notice the difference between the two and as Zero said, the t7200 is only worth it if you're planning on editing videos and the like.

thx everyone, so it looks like the NVidia 7300 is out of the question. I do plan on using apps like photoshop cs2 and indesign and music editing but mostlikely no video editing. the upgrade to the t7200 is 150$.

The CPU upgrade is slightly expensive but might be worth it since all those apps are pretty CPU intensive.
