    Hi,
I've have my inspiron 6400 for 2 weeks now, it's great.
But today, when I lifted my laptop up, i found that the battery dropped a little bit (1mm maybe) on one side. I could pressed it back with no effort but it would drop again due to gravity.
It's my 1st laptop and i'm just wondering is this normal? if not, i'll probably call Dell tomorrow to see whether i need to change the battery or sth.

    Thanks!

don't know if it's normal, but my battery started to do that after a while from everyday use. Doesn't seem to hurt anything, but if you're really worried about it then i suppose you could call dell and reasure yourself.

I didn't carry it around and I didn't notice that until yesterday.
It has never been hit nor dropped. :(

my E1505 has that problem as well. I just use electrical tape to close that 1mm gap that is causing that play.

    good luck

My battery on my 6000 does this at well. It's a year and 3 months now. I don't know how long it's been doing this, or if the 9 cell is more prone to it. But I have a feeling it's a normal occurance.

    Thanks!

I read this thread not to long ago and found it odd that the battery would be loose considering when I touched mine nothing happened. Now a few days later I noticed that I have the same problem. Just keep this thread up to date about the change you find when you get a new system returned to you because I am hoping this is normal.

ya, i will. It shouldn't involve any safety issues, but more or less it doesn't feel good when it's moving up and down ;)
I still don't know when approximately I can get my exchanging laptop. They didn't give my a tracking number. I guess I'll call dell tomorrow again

I got my exchanged system today and the first thing I did after received it was to check if the battery sits tight. :) And yes, it doesn't move or shake at all.
I also noticed that the battery of the new system is made in Japan whereas the one of my former 6400 is made in Korea. Will that make a difference?
Anyways, I'm happy with my new inspiron 6400. It has vista preloaded because I've ordered express vista upgrade in early Jan. It comes along with the vista upgrade disk and a vista oem installation disk.(Dell is quite flexible in this way. I don't need to wait another month for the upgrade package.)
Everything is perfect now, I love my 6400 :)

    To drk:
I don't know if the battery of my laptop will become loose again but I think you should call Dell and ask about it. Good luck.
