Hello, I am new here, so bare with me. I am not a computer wizzard and take all the help you can offer. Here is my problem. On my inspire 6400 the sreen went black. After this happened, I connected an auxilery monitor which worked perfect. What could be the trouble? Thanks for any help on this.

The LCD on the E1505 is connected by a small connector to the motherboard.
If you have a small flathead screwdriver, use that to pry off the small plastic bezel which is located between your keyboard and the LCD. It has the power button on it. (You need to fold the LCD back 180 degrees to remove the plastic bezel properly)
Once removed, you will need to remove the two screws which hold the keyboard down. The LCD ribbon connector is located by the print screen button on the keyboard. Make sure that the connector is connected all of the way. Once that is checked, let us know if the problem still occurs.
If the problem continues, than the problem is coming from the LCD. That being said, it could be a dead screen inverter, a loose cable, or a dead LCD.
You can test this very easily.
Remove the 6 rubber circular dots around the Lid. Once removed you will see small screws underneath them. Once those 6 screws are removed you will be able to separate the two halves of the screen.
You should look for the screen inverter underneath your LCD. It is literally right behind the DELL name on the front plastic bezel, (the one you see when you open the Lid)
You should unplug the wires connected on the right of the inverter. You should grab a voltmeter. Their should be around 1200V AC coming out of the inverter. If you are getting no voltage out of the inverter, than the inverter is fried. You should buy a replacement inverter if this is the problem. They should be pretty cheap, maybe around $30 or so
If the inverter works, and the problem still exists, you should check the LCD ribbon cable connectors on the back of the LCD. To do this you need to get to the back of the LCD. You will have to remove another 10-12 screws to get to the back of the LCD. The ribbon cable you are looking for is about 1" wide and about 1mm thick. Simply unplug it from the back of the LCD. Than reconnect the cable. When the cable is connected properly, use some electrical tape to hold the cable in place, so it does not come disconnected again.
Than put the system back together and test everything out.
Hopefully it is a connectivity or an inverter problem because those are very cheap and easy to diagnose/fix
Good luck,

Thanks, I will try this and report back.

I am not sure, I got this right. When I look at the inverter I see 2 wires on the left going into it. Are they the one to have the 1200V output? The screen comes on but turns red and than black. Do I still look at a inverter problem here? When I went on a webside for the inverter, the symptom for a failure was explained as the sreen has still some light, but very dim. Or there is no graphic display. It is as if the computer wants to start up and just sits there
My screen Is just pitch black with no light in the back whatsoever. -
If your screen comes on red than your inverter is working.
However you mentioned it goes black, as in it shuts off?
I dont know the exact voltage coming out of the inverter
Just use a voltmeter and check the power which comes out of the inverter. The parts to test are the point on the inverter board where the wire which plugs into the LCD would be.
If you get any voltage out of there than the inverter is working. If nothing comes out, than the inverter is shot.
It just sounds like you have a connection problem.
Check the connection on the back of the LCD as I mentioned above

Thanks again for the suggestion. I did check all the connections and they are fine. Unless of course a wire might be broken. Maybe I only have to replace the flat wire strip. First I will see whether there is voltage coming out of the inverter. Thanks K-Tron.

IF the 2 prong pluck is the output from the inverter, than he is shut. No Volts at all on this output. Thanks for the help, K-tron

if no voltage is coming out you need a new inverter. I doubt the ribbon cable snapped for the LCD. A new inverter should be pretty cheap for the system.
You should check ebay, excel computer, or online etailers for a new inverter.
Here is an image of my E1505 lid:
I can barely make out the text but I wrote down the part number, it is "IV12139"
In the image, the output side of the inverter is on the left (pink and white wire)

I got the right one. It looks exactly like yours. I can get an inverter for $ 15.28 US from the yal .com store. Thanks again, and hopefully it will work.
