also has anyone used a 2nd hard drive caddy for a dell laptop, how do they fit on?

That depends on what you have now. How much RAM do you currently have installed, what edition of Windows, and is it 64-bit or 32-bit?

It'll also depend on what you do with the 640m.
As I understand, the original Core Solo / Duo machines can't run the 64-bit versions of Windows. 32-bit versions of Windows recognise less memory.
My 640m has 2x512 Mb modules as standard, which I replaced with 2x1024 Mb modules. It didn't make it any quicker unless I started running several heavyweight applications at the same time. Then it doesn't get any slower thanks to pulling the data to and from the drive. That's on the Centrino Core Duo T2050. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Just as an aside, the 640M (and I think this is the same as the E1405?) only officially supports up to 2GB of memory, so you may not be able to run all 4GB of memory in the first place. There have been reports of people running 4GB with some success on the similar Inspiron 6400/E1505, but it's going to be partially a crapshot.
Ultimately, if you haven't been having any slowdowns or problems with 2GB, upgrading to 4GB probably isn't going to do much.
