    Hey all.

Recently my battery wouldn't hold a charge, so I bought a newer one. It charges up alright, but if I unplug it and try to run it on the battery, it immediatly turns off. If I try to start it back up again, it won't turn on unless I plug it back in again.

    What's going on? Thanks.

How old was the original battery when it stopped holding a charge? Li-Ion batteries have a limited lifespan and it's quite possible that it had been used up.

I generally don't like off-brand batteries for my notebooks, since they don't have the same sort of accountability when it comes to their product. It could be that the TechPower battery just wasn't very good.

But in case I'm wrong, how old is the replacement battery? And have you been calibrating it regularly?

With proper care and maintenance, a Li-Ion battery's life can be extended. Read through the battery guide for more information on that.

The battery's around a year and a half old; I purchased the laptop in July 2005. I think the battery that came with the unit's going bad; my BIOS says it's bad and the battery can barely hold 5 minutes of power; right now the "charge" of the battery has been hovering at 75% done for hours.

How would you calibrate a battery?

Read through the battery guide. There are some tips there for care and maintenance of a Li-Ion battery.

I checked out that notebook hardware control program; it says my battery has 0% ware but that can't be right.

If you read through the battery guide, I mention how that utility is not likely to be as accurate as you might think.

Last I checked it told me my 6-month old battery is 100% as well.

Well I emailed the guy I bought it from; hopefully he'll get back to me asap.

Here's something interesting. During bootup, I get a message saying that my adapter cannot be detected from a BIOS warning.

But I have another adapter and using that one didn't help my battery issue.
