Hi, I am a long time lurker first time poster :)

I have a Dell inspiron 9300 it works fine to surf internet watch video's but when i try to game I get massive pixel tearing, graphical tearing and soon after a crash going into a infinite loop( according to the blue screen)

My main game i play is wow and last night I lowered the resultion of game (from 1900x1200) too a much lower non native resolution and the game worked for about 30 minutes.

I also hooked the laptop up to a monitor that i know works well and had the same graphical issues.

I also checked the reported gpu temps they got no higher than 50c

    Updated gpu drivers.

Have i missed any simple solutions or is it as a fear my gpu is failing?

    steve

    I thought that the Dell 9300's had a 1440 x 900 screen?

If your problems are duplicated on an external monitor, it probably means that your GPU is failing. If you still have your Dell Diagnostics CD, you can run a set of tests on the GPU and verify that it is dying.

They had the option for either the 1440x900 or the 1920x1200.

As a fellow 9300 owner, I would like to know how it all turns out for you colosteve. Which GPU do you have in your laptop? The 9300 came with three choices that I know of the ATI 128 MB and a 64 MB version and then the better go 6800. Some folks have even upgraded their 9300 with the 7800 GTX, which is still a very good GPU, with huge success.

If it is the GPU, ebay almost always has someone selling either version of the GPU's I mentioned.
