    Welcome to the lcd dump club , it is unrepairable and could be solved by replacing the panel .

    Check for prices of your panel at Dell and online sites specializing in lcd panels ( maybe ebay ? ) you might be able to do it yourself at parts cost using Dell helpful service manuals available to download / view online .

    The part is very expensive and the older the notebook the less its worth to repair , you might have to live with it .

    thanks gilo, almost exactly what i told him but i just wanted backup on it.

    I'm no lappy expert but have had my 6 yo inspiron in bits more often that i care to think of and mostly used dells service manuals.

    i'm thinking of getting a 6400 for myself, hope the screen on that is better....
