I just purchased an dell inspiron e1405 lap top and upgraded to the ultrasharp truelife screen. after i bought it i read the reviews on cnet (yes i know i should have read them first!) anyways all the reviews said that the truelife screen was horrible and now i dont know what to do. Do any of you know if the Truelife screen is better or worse than the standard screen?

I'm on it right now and I don't mind. Maybe it just takes getting used to. I got the AUO screen and there's very minor light leakage, and one stuck pixel, other than that, I'm content with it. It really just takes gettinng used to..I'm happy I got it.

    1. dont trust anything you read on cnet (well most of what you read there).

    2. screen options come down to personal preference, so assuming there is nothing physically wrong with the LCD, it's up to you to decide if you "like" it or not.

    3. you always have the option of negotiating with dell to get a replacement LCD, return the notebook, etc. so i wouldn't worry too much about being stuck with something you don't like.

Theres been different polls on this question and what I found out is its just really a individual personal opinion. Some people love it and some people hate it. Its not a unanimous decision about this topic. Search out the poll about this topic on this forum. Ive seen this question asked out differernt computer forums and what I found was about 70% like the TrueLife while the other 30 like the matte. I dunno if that says anything because theres a lot of comments saying people hate it as well.

It is individual preference but I think you will NOT be dissapointed. I have had both matte and glossy screens. The gloss is way better IMO then the matte.

Well, since you've already purchased the notebook, forget the reviews. What do YOU think?

The extra resolution is well worth the glare, which is only a problem if using the laptop outside which I don't need to do.

At home I've got the 15" Inspiron 6000 with glossy truelife at 1680 x 1050.

    At the office I've got the 14" Latitude D620 matte at 1440 X 900.

I much prefer the glossy screen to the matte screen under the controllable light conditions at home.

I haven't taken the Inspiron to the office but I imagine it would not fare too well
    in the bright conditions there.

If you can control the light go for the gloss!

yea i changed my order to the matte. i got my comp and i love the matte screen. i just decided that i was happy with my old reg. comp screen so i know ill be happy with my new comp if it was matte too. then i saw my friends dell inspiron e1505 and he got the glossy screen. yes, it did make the images look nicer and it was cool but i could see my entire reflection on the computer even inside. I took it outside and i could barely even tell the computer was turned on. it was really difficult to read. so i guess if you will be indoors the glossy screen is really nice but im glad I got matte. i would like to have the option to go outdoors with my computer if i needed too :)

Doesnt glossy mean that it is somewhat reflective? If it wasnt it coudnt really be called glossy right or am I wrong?
