    inspiron e1705 - power supply

    my unit just shut down and it is plug into elec outlet.

    I assume the battery is dead but shouldn't it be okay with power adapter attached and pluged in?

    Download HWMonitor. Report temperatures after some use (assuming you can still turn it back on).

    I would unplug everything and test out the AC adapter first with a multimeter.

    If it outputs 0 voltage, test with known good Dell 90 watt OEM AC adapter. You may just have a bad AC adapter, given the age of your Dell laptop I wouldn't be surprised.
