I bought my daughter a dell inspiron 7000 from ebay, and she got a virus, bug or something on it. We tried to reload the os on it but when it sparks up we get the blue dell screen, then the prompt <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
when i press f2 for setup it asks for the bios password. I have tried all the default ones, but they dont work. The guy i bought it from was a vicar and i don't have his details. I cant use any cd's to reboot as I can't config it to read the cd drive first. Want to try removing the cmos battery to see if that will work but a) cant find anything online as to where its located and b) no info on dismantling the thing. Dellk website absolutely useless. Any help gratefully accepted. got a bit of pc savvy but not v good on techie stuff.

Call Dell and they can help you out.
-
I would contact the eBay seller via a PM and ask if they have the BIOS password. If he/she does not, then contact Dell.
-
hehe, i have bios and windows and harddrive passwords...so if i ever sell this, whoever is screwed if i dont tell them...well...unless they are experienced computer users...

The cmos battery is soldered to the mainboard according to this thread.

Contact Dell customer service to do the ownership transfer and explain that you bought it from eBay. -
thanks for all the advice. Have sent the seller an email but as its a while since i bought it i am not very hopeful. I will contact dell and ask them

If Dell doesn't help out, I'd suggest you file against the seller because he basically sold you a dead notebook. But that is worse case scenario...
inspiron help please?
