    Have you got AHCI enabled?

Look in Device Manager. You should see something like the attached.

If it is not, you can try following the instructions here to install the driver and you then need to enable AHCI in the BIOS.

Wait, the Turbo Memory can act as a drive? I was under the impression that it kind of just worked on its own in the background to speed things up. Are you looking to store files on it?

Oh and check Device Manager in the Control Panel. I think it shows up there.

device manager shows two new items: intel turbo memory controller under Storage controllers; IMD-0 under Disk drives.
but windows explorer shows no new drive.

Turbo memory is not a drive as such. Half is a non-volatile cache for the HDD and half is used as ReadyBoost.

If you run HDTune you should be able to choose a 537MB drive which has impressive performance (I'm not convinced that it represents the reality).

Also note that it takes several reboot cycles for Turbo Memory to start functioning properly. When it is, you should notice the HDD powering down more often when you are running on battery.

537MB drive shows only maximum 37.9 MB/s which is even less than 45.8M/s of hard drive. something wrong here?

That's what I thought it was. To the OP, you're not getting a 1GB SSD if that's what you were trying to get at. It's a specialized bit of memory designed to speed up common boot programs which probably limits its functionality, sparking the debate as to whether it's just a gimmick or not.

Did you install the Turbo Memory an Matrix Storage driver from Intel.com (newer version than on the Dell site) both are required to make this work properly in Vista

thanks, got it in program group. with this average 30MB/s transfer rate of cache, (even slower than hard drive's transfer rate) is it normal?
