i'm going to university, and i want to know how portable dell i9300 is.
is it hard to carry around in campus and etc?
since i'm worried about portability, i thought about buying dell i700m,
but since i'm into gaming, i was forced to see 9300 for it's nvidea graphics.
does any one know if there is any thin and light laptop with high graphics?

Some find the i9300 portable. It is 17% heavier than the i6000. If you want a i6000-size dell with a seriously powerful graphics card you have to look at the Precision M70. But I wouldn't call it "thin and light", though lighter and smaller than the i9300. But the i700m is seriously low on graphics: it has an integrated gpu. Any of the range bigger: the D610, D810, and i6000 (in the case of the i6000 the option) of non-integrated gpus, either the X300 or the X600 (D810), so have a hugely enhanced graphics ability compared to the i700m. None of them are anywhere as small and light as the i700m, though the D610 is significantly more portable than the others. If you want double the gpu grunt of the X300/X600 machines you have to go to the i9300 or the M70.

depending on what kind of laptop you want and what you plan to use, but i think i9300 is not that portable since its pretty big. but if you like big laptops, i think the i9300 is one of the lightest 17'' computers.

I think the Inspiron 9300 is portable at under 8lbs. For a 17" screen and under 8lbs, it's not that bad for a big size notebook. I'm still waiting for my Inspiron 9300 to be deliver to me.

It depends on how long you want it to be portable for. I can't imaging toting a 17" model around for very long, I especially couldn't imagine busting it out in class to take notes. It sounds to me like you're going to need to decide based on how much you want to move it around, vs. the gaming aspects.

haha defintely. i bought my laptop for college and it would do be wonders in the dorms, but carrying into classes, ehh that might be a little weird. i agree with Brian, taking it out/in classes its pretty big for the small desks or in class.

i just got my i9300, its not as small as i thought, but its actually not that bad.

I would have rather had a smaller notebook, but this is awesome for the preformance/price.

also, the keyboard is nice once u get used to it.

I also will be a university student, and I was worried about portablility also. I have had mine now for several weeks, and hind it fairly easy to use and move around. A good bag, probably a messanger because you can keep your laptop and books seperate, thus stopping you from being forced to lug around a monster bag. Best advice is to try it. If you don't like it, you can return it within 30 days. The 9300 does dominate at gaming, which I love, and I have been dominating my friends at games for the last few weeks. Even they are shocked as to how light and movable this giant is. Hopefully this helps some what.

I take mine to school everyday, but I don't use it in classes. It is just a little big for it, but I use it when i have to kill a couple of hours between classes. If you do get it, I would get a messenger bag instead of the backpack for it. The backpacks are big by themselves, and when you put the laptop and your books in it, it will start to feel like it weights a ton.

The inspiron 9300 is about a pound heavier than the inspiron 6000 and performs leaps and bounds better with a bigger screen, the 6800 card and two extra usb ports plus a dvi AND vga output for about teh same price as a 6000. I carry mine to and from work all of the time and dont find it a problem at all. I wouldnt worry too much about its portability, it does look big out of the box but after a few days I cant imagine using a laptop that is smaller than the 17 inch screen. The 9300 dimensions are only half an inch deeper and an inch wider than the 6000.

    Cheers

You wont find the m70 or the latitudes to be very much lighter at all compared to the 9300 and neither of those systems is in the price/performance range of the 9300. Precisions are professional workstations that offer close to the same performance as the 6800 and the latitudes are business systems both of which will cost you A WHOLE LOT MORE than a 9300 would with or without a coupon.

seriously i think dell doesnt make any "portable" notebooks. if you really want to go for portability, then you might have to consider some other brands. it all depends on what your portability means.

Well, im laying on my couch right now, with my latpop, and it doesn't bother me one bit! I love the screen it is amazing. I got the messenger bag from dell, it fits nice and tight, and is built nicely. I just got the laptop today and am already very impressed!

Have to agree with previous posters, once you get your 9300 you'll wonder why you even considered anything else.
If you decide to go ultra portable just remember that you will have to make sacrifices to get that ultra portability and may find an ultra portable machine to be inadequate for general use.

Folks considering an ultra portable need to ask themselves, just how much time will I really be spending carrying my laptop around??? Is it worth taking a performance hit on a good sized screen, a full sized keyboard and a good performing GPU/video card just so you can take notes in a class room? ( where you will probably end up surfing the net instead of taking notes anyhow)
    Food for thought....

i do admit the i9300 is one of the lightest 17 in out there. especially for its size, its a lot lighter than people think. totally worth it. but when you put on your lap for some time it tends to get heavy. i'm not sure about other people, but for over time it gets heavy.
