Hello all a friend is thinking of buying a dell 600 with celeron 1.3 mobile with 30gig and cdrw/DVD and wireless and 512 mb of RAM. The needs of my friend is simple just to do some word processing and watch dvd and surf the web. Do you think this will be a good buy with coupon it cost about 790. Please let me know what you think guys

I'd upgrade to a Pentium M 1.6Ghz with the new Sonoma, if anything for the battery life. If you dig around on Dell's site you'll notice that going Pentium M raises the battery life somewhat significantly, mostly because Pentium M's have SpeedStep technology and Celeron M's don't, and that saves battery life during low-usage.

If you have to stay in a certain budget the Celeron is fine. If battery life is what you are looking for the Centrino fits the bill well. I don't know the price differential on Centrino versus Celeron. When you start to increase the price, you start to add on things quickly (ie more memory, Faster HD RPM speed, larger drive, DVD burner, Bluetooth, etc etc). Set the budget and go for it. Celeron is good enough for what you are doing.
