Why are you asking us what a rep can and can't tell you? Last time I looked we're not reps... Want to know what a rep can and can't tell you? CALL A REP!

there were at one point some dell reps on here i got a pm from 2 of them.. at least they said they were dell reps..they claimed they have been watching posts and reading about the issues etc... im calling in the morning to talk with escalations about it since they seem to be the only way things get done. ill let you all know what they say.. this would rock if we could know that far in advance.. but i doubt it

calm down frazell.. he's just asking a simple question.... lots of people are having problems with their systems... anyone is entitled to be frustrated.. that's what these forums are for... to ASK QUESTIONS.

I know the forum is for questions and I don't complain when the questions make sense... It doesn't make sense though to ask a question in a forum where you can't recieve a reliable answer...

I could post a thread asking people here to name the technician who'll be at my door tomorrow, doesn't make it possible...

I just got upset because I felt he should have just picked up the phone and called Dell or waited until tomorrow and did that...

the question wasn't addressed to you only though... maybe someone had experience with what zfactor was asking.. HENCE... justifies him asking the question. the answers we receive on forums come from personal experiences..... maybe you haven't, but others may have had similar experiences.

    Both of you, chill.

To Frazell, I understand that you are upset at zfactor for his dealings with Dell (he's on his fifth replacement). But it might be wiser just to not respond to his posts before you two start a flame war.

To the OP, I understand Dell offers attractive prices, but you have to make a decision. You're probably never going to be happy with a Dell screen, no matter who the manufacturer. You are already biased against them. It might be wiser to spend a little more for quality. As they say, you get what you pay for.

i will spend more after this next system.. its already being procc and they said will ship within 3 days so ill give it one more shot its only 3 days.. i was just hoping to save those 3 days if i could and find out ahead of time which screen it was, and irregardless of price man we own 400$ toshiba's bought from office depot that have near perfect screens albeit the viewing angles are not great but def acceptable and color is awesome and no grain at all.. no dead pixels etc and these are coming from 400$ systems (we own 2 of these and both are perfect)... so sorry but you cant tell me its due to price point no offense.. i should NOT HAVE TO spend more to get better quality this system before my comps from escalations is over 1400$...

    Here's how a market works:

Company has product. You have money. Company wants money. You give them money. They give you product. If you like the product, they keep the money. If you don't like the product, you can return it and get your money back.

If Dell made a pile of $#%$, and called it a laptop, priced at $1400, you don't say that "for $1400 the pile needs to be better, and I won't rest until it is". Instead, you just don't buy the pile and go to a different company, regardless of how much you pay. In other words, you can't tell Dell how to do their jobs, only to choose which company you wish to patronize.

hey, zfactor. well, we both know that dell doesn't always ship what they have listed... but the way i have used is to log in and look at the invoice (if the order shows up on recent order status, that is). for me, when i click on the recent order status of the replacement they are sending- it goes to an invoice page with item numbers for all of the parts. the sec3350 screen item number is 320-5462. the lg item number is 320-5545. i don't know any other numbers. hope this helps, my man. the replacement they are sending me has the sec3350 item number. hehe. i hope it's better than the one i've got! good luck!

edit- i don't want anyone to get the wrong idea so let it be known this is wrong! see below...

are you sure the 320-5462 is a sec screen?? if so thats what my replacement says.. ill cancel tomm morning.. lmk if you are positive and how you know the lg is a different part number?? i was told that number is just a general number so dell knows what resolution to put in the system...??

    you may be right. well, i can't tell you for sure. i took the info from;
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=162879
and that was a vostro, so...
i guess i hope that 320-5462 IS just a general number, 'cause that means i might not be getting another sec3350?

if i were in your shoes i would just let the replacement come. it can't hurt. if it sucks, send everything back, if not- than you finally got a decent screen. i know it would feel great to just call them up and tell them to **** off, man, i want to! but it can't hurt your position to let the replacement show up, right?

assuming the replacement sucks, what are you thinking of buying? i will likely be in the market or a new laptop too as soon as i get my next crappy sec3350 screen. argh.

That's not true, I just checked the part lists for my original and my replacement laptop, and they had the same part number.

no those number do not specify the brand of screen.. the 320-5462 simply tells dell it is a wsxga in a inspiron 1520, the 320-5545 tells them its a wsxga in a vostro 1500... at the same time every part even the 8600gt used in both has different part numbers same with the ram and cd drive i just configured them the same way and checked all the part numbers every one of the same parts for the inspiron and the vostro are different.. so that cant be right

on thing i did notice is the vostro uses a 8600gt model 256nv86 while the inspiron uses 8600gt model 256ac... i wonder what the difference is with them

Well, I paid less for my HP dv6500t then the 1420 I had and the screen blows the doors off the dell. My friend has a 450 dollar HP that has a brilliant screen as well. I stick by Zfactor on this. I had two very crappy displays from dell and that last one (AUO) was simply pathetic.. at any price.

I don't think Zfactor is overly picky here. Dell is simply using some very cheap glass these days.

simple answer is NO.. i spoke with me rep at the escalations dept and he said there is now way for them to look up which screen it is till it is invoiced and shipped. he did say he would offer me a in home service this time or a refund though since i told him if i get that screen ill be calling as soon as i turn it on and getting a refund. but just for those that are wondering there is no way to know unfortunatly that would make everyone's life so much easier..
