    is there anyway to have an onscreen volume display, like when you adjust the volume up or down to see what level it is at?

    I thought it did... I know the Inspiron 1520 does... hmm. See if maybe Vista has a setting for that.

    Quickset uses about 2,500K memory as it appears in my taskbar processes. That is a pretty small memory footprint for machines today.
