I think that is a good price. I ordered the 1420 and it was about the same amount.
    What is your ship date?

    I just ordered a 1420 with the same configuration. Mine was $1067 (pre-tax) with 6-cell and 9-cell batteries. :D

I just got the standard warranty, and started with the cheapest base price and finally added the coupon. In fact I had already ordered a 1420 on 7/3, but today they started offering the "free" 2G RAM and 160G HD (It was no trouble to cancel the orignal order by calling Dell.)

When I put together another order this morning it would have come out to about $50 more than my original order. This afternoon everything was about $100 less and I had to upgrade to the 7200 rpm drive *and* get an extra 9-cell battery to meet the $1399 minimum! For me, this will be a real dream machine - at least for the price. :) Webcam, Bluetooth, Intel Wifi card, extra battery for those long plane rides... wow!

But, my ship date is 8/9 :(

Honestly, I didn't have good luck calling the Dell reps when ordering. I spent 30 minutes on the phone and got nowhere, so I decided to order my second 1420 through the web interface. My rep did offer me a $100 discount, but then she said that couldn't be combined with the $350 coupon. YMMV. I've read reports of people getting other discounts, but it seems like everyone's situation is different (especially students.)
