    Hey all,

I just purchased a e1705 notebook from Dell. I ordered the screen with Truelife, but I'm starting to wonder if the gloss effect is doable for fps gaming.. Purely from a gaming standpoint, which screen is best? XGA or WUXGA w/ Truelife?

    Truelife is fine.

On my computer, BF1942 is vertically letterboxed.

    GTR plays full screen.

Gloss is nice for gaming (provided you're in a semi-dark room) The only thing I would worry about is driving that resolution natively during high-powered games.

Ok here we go, The wuxga screen is better then the wxga+ it has a higher resoltion, more color and contrast ratio and other things. True life is a glosy coating that makes the screen look better. Its bad thing about it is that it makes glare. If you game i would suggest the wxga+. Not because the wuxga isnt good for gaming its jsut that its native res is very high and even high end vid cards will have problems with new games if you want the other settings on high. Another thing the wuxga+ has a very high res so you may not like how everything is so small. But you get to see more on the screen. Its mostly personal preference. Most laptops these days are glossy. You should look to see wat one you like. Glosy is good for gaming because it makes it look better but if you have alot of light shining across the screen then you will have lots of glare.

What do you mean by this? I play a ton of BF1942... And does BF let you play at 1900x1200?

No it doesnt, in fact none of the battlefields even have widescreen resulutions. Stupid ea :( So you can either stretch it or use bars to rescale it and have a samller fullscreen.

Well i havent got my new dell yet(got to wait to christmas). I got the wxga+ screen and the 7900gs vid card. My screen is only 1480 by 900. I dont know what im going to do with bf. I will probally just use 1024 by 768 with bars.

Yea see that's why I think I'm just gonna stick with TrueLife. The XGA is an awkward res for gaming, and for BF, you have to level down since there's no widescreen resolutions. But for TrueLife, I'll just have to level down to 1600x1200, which is a lot better with bars over 1024x768 IMO.
