i got my 1555 delivered yesterday. faced two issues:
a. the usb ports on the left are too damn 'tight'. you have to force the connector in. one thumb drive went rubbery in the process. is this something to do with the build itself or particular to my machine?
b. creative add-on drivers ( i went for the upgrade). i have 64bit OS(shipped) and this stuff was not installed out-of-the-box. so i pop in the disc and install the stuff following the instructions. but the console app, control panel don't work. incompatible device stuff. now, what could be the issue. it' weekend so i cant really talk to the rep or support guys. i called up the xps support and the guy was ncie enought to tell me that this stuff doesnt work on 64bit. but then went on to give me a patch which would reportedly make it work. but that patch seemingly fails to install.
anyone else here faced the issue? if the creative stuff and the OS are really incompatible, what are my options? the dell rep must've known this all while configuring the stuff for me. whole thing was done over phone!
reposting as a thread.

nobody' got a clue or what?

pretty sure there is a rule against bumping your own threads.....
but yea... I got nothing. Tech support runs 24/7... -
-
so m I in for infractions?
tech support basically told me ( two different guys) that vista 64bit+creative software = fail.one of them even told me to go talk to creative about it.
but the thing is, why did they sell it then?
perhaps ill have to call up the rep' manager. but she' just as dumb/smart. she was the one who added the upgrade on my request to a specially discounted quote. -
alright. -
What are the creative drivers for i believe the webcam is creative. Anyway i have installed creative drivers on the 64os with no problems.

sound card.
this is what they call it:
" Integrated CREATIVE Sound Blaster(R) X-Fi MB Audio Software Solution "
http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=in&l=en&s=dhs&cs=indhs1&kc=&oc=S540514IN8
bought it just coz i had heard ppl complain about the basic sound device giving issues like artifacts while high cpu activity/activity spike. -
another issue:
the choppyness in sound is there. whenever the system is upto something, the sounds chop. i encountered this last in my pentium 1 system, which was clearly not capable of doing another thing when playing mp3 audio. so this is like going back something like 15 years.
any fixes for this issue? -
The usb port on the left side at the top will be a usb esata port so it's going to be tighter.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
point is, both of them are.

just had a discussion with a rather dumb tech support fellow.the manager of the sales rep patched him up while discussing.things he said:
a. creative software runs for external sound card. since you don't have that in bundle, it won't work. ( good, so why did dell bundle the software?)
b. jittery audio is very normal ( I see, perhaps i should dust off my old pentium)
so after his blabber ( in which I had to tell him that I've been using computers for 19 years+, to cut his blabber down a bit), i tell the manager that this is no solution. so she tells me to call the tech support sometime when i have my lappy in hand. which means weekend..as i mostly come back to my apartment late from work. Told her Ill mail the screenshots of the creative stuff and made it clear that Ill return this machine if things don't get fixed to my satisfaction.
my query to old dell users, are all the tech support guys as intelligent as this one? -
I was literally told and I quote :
-
I hope that was a joke..lol!
anyway, talked with another fellow today. mailed him screenshots while on call. atleast he was willing to receive the information I was trying to give him! -
