my m1710 XPS has a weird peculiarity. When i open any pictures in the lappie it is very clear and vivid. Like say, when i open pictures in the fax viewer or if there is a picture on the desktop the picture is very clear.
but when i start using internet explorer for browsing the internet, all the pictures that appear in the various websites look like jigsaw puzzles put together... the edges shown distinctly and they don't look clear at all. i don't know whats up with that. is it a problem with the display or is there something wrong with IE?

can you post some screenshots or pix?
-
Im at work now... i'll get it up as soon i get back home.. that should be abt another few hours..

We can probably get a better idea from pics as drumfu suggests.
My first thought is if you just received your laptop, your DPI might be set to 120 and causing the images to look a bit weird. -
You might try going to:
[In Internet Explorer]
File/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Multimedia/...make sure "Smart Image Dithering" is checkmarked. (I have everything under"Multimedia" checked.) -
helo, just got back from work
well, here's the pic..

If you notice carefully, the picture looks a little pixelated... especially the yellow
psychokitty, smart image dithering was already turned on. the pictures appearted that way inspite of that. -
reduce ur dpi to 96, mine was set at 120dpi when i got it.
this will solve ur problem -
deal mate, looks like its a problem with IE. cos the same pic in opera is crystal clear. I knew i should have stayed with opera. I thought IE 7 was something to look for. Thats why i tried it in the first place. Looks like i'm going back to opera.... bye bye IE...
i really wish i could uninstall IE and just use opera. but not all sites are opera friendly. !!
but thanks all. -
im having a similar problem

do a search, Dell had this problem with the old 9100/xps line. There is a registry entry that will take care of that, I just don't remember as I do not use 120DPI anymore.

i plan to use ie only when a site is not opera friendly...
jigsaw display
