That is a great deal! How did you get that price though? I'm configuring it on the Dell website and I'm not getting it.

Can you answer my question? Not that question :).

Has your Dell Latitude D630 arrived? Does the Dell Latitude D630 have stereo speakers or Mono speakers?

    Thank you for your help.

I ordered a similar machine several days ago for nearly $1500. I have talked to Andrew about a review, expect one most likely by next week (I truly hope).

    Mono= one speaker.

Stereo= two speakers. Stereo can refer to several speakers, but laptops usually have 2 at the most.

that's what I thought, but why would it be so hard to believe that the Dell D630 has stereo speakers? are they advertised as otherwise? Didn't pay too much attention on the speakers as you can tell.

I would prefer stereo speakers, but it is not that important. Dell does not post any useful information about their speakers online and CNET often posts wrong information.

Not exactly the same, the review will explain everything. As far as the warranty, I chose the basic 3 years + the in-home-service.

Home J, you can always give small business sales department a call. i am sure they should know about the speakers. and i saw the review on cnet it said something about stereo speakers on D630, i guess i will wait 3 weeks to found out.

The D630 is still mono speaker according to the Service Manual and User Guide Specifications. The speaker in my D620 sounds no worse and can get as loud as the four speakers in my older Asus Z70Va. All laptop speakers I've heard were utter crap compared to these under $20 Koss KSC75.

To the OP's original question, under $1100 for that config with CompleteCare is definitely a good deal.

If only Dell Canada would hurry up and get the Dx30's so I can use my EPP already...

Wow that's a smokin' deal. I go to VCU and it is far cheaper for me to go through the small business site. The standard D630 w/o customization starts at $1454 through VCU, whereas it is $999 through small business. The only difference I see is that the with the VCU deal, a 3 year warranty with next day on site service is included. Std small biz includes 3 year, but no next day on site. Why would I ever buy it through the school?

I have no idea what's so special about this person's school. The Dell academic discount is an absolute joke. It is an insult to college students; we are not that desperate.

It just means that it meet certain compliance for energy usage set by Energy Star. Nothing important....especially for a laptop because they cannot drain that much power at this size.
Nice deal, I looked into this as well.

You might as well just go on ebay and pick up a D/port replicator with 90W AC Adapter, like this ebay auction. That way you can keep the port replicator plugged in at home, and have the smaller 65W adapter as an extra to carry around.

The only advantage with the 90W adapter is it can charge the 9-cell battery faster.

There shouldn't be any problems. The D-Family of accessories should work across the whole line. Personally I've used a D600, D610, D510 and D620 with three different d/port replicators of various age without any issues.

There may be better deals on ebay, i just took one of the first links when i searched for 'd/port'. Just make sure the auction includes both the port replicator and the AC adapter, some of them are only for the port replicator itself.

lazybum - can you answer me one more question about the D/port replicator?

Will it allow me to run two 22" monitors at once? and Have one of the monitors to watch a movie, and the other monitor to do some other tasks? One hooked up as VGA and one hooked up as DVI? thanks

    Hi Sirius_GTO,
Did you ever get this problem sorted ?
    I have a dell d630 latitude, with a d\port - which has a vga and dvi output.
I want to run two external monitors and the laptop (totalling 3 displays).

    Can it be done ????

    cheers
