I read that it is the intel storage matrix driver. I have not changed anything in bios. I boot off ultimate cd and specify additional drivers and it says it cannot install the intel storage matrix driver. Can someone shoot me a link or something to the correct one or tell me what I am doing wrong? The install won't see any hard drives now and it won't let me install the intel storage matrix driver!!!

I did that. Something is not right. I am following the guide but it won't let me install the intel storage matrix driver during vista install. maybe im not being clear.

I just got the laptop. Popped in vista ultimate cd. deleted all partitions and trying to instal the sata driver(intel storage matrix) and it won't let me. is there something special about ultimate or something.. what the hell.

did you extract the driver files onto a usb drive? you can't install the driver package without first extracting

i think since you deleted all partitions, something has changed. try to install from dell original vista CD,if that doesnt work then i guess there is problm wih hard drive partitioning. it would have been wise to merge all partitions under original OS with a good software and then start.

BTW, how did yo get such a good price on m1530,
    i got 2.2ghz, 3 gig, 3 year W, 1440x900 screen , dell b/g wireless , regular sound, 8600gt and 160 gig for $1350 w/tax(same name same price) after 12% discount.
