hi i think the laptop runs on speedstep and it will clock the cpu to a higher speed whenever it needs to.
I just got mine today too

i was wondering if the left side of your touchpad and keyboard is very warm?

Darius, are you running the system on battery power? the CPU and ram will automatically run at a lower speed on battery power to conserve the battery, the speedstep program will allow you to change it if you wish to run it at a higher speed on the battery. Most likely the screen will run dimmer to conserve the battery too.

    Hi,

I just ordered the 700m and thought it was going to weigh 4.1 lbs. with the standard battery, but just read somewhere that it weighs 4.9 Lbs. with the battery. Does anyone have real world experience that can give me the true weight?

    Thanks in advance.

I used the little applet from this guy for 3 years....It can set your speed and manage your fans. Works for most DELL

This program is a must for Dell owners...because it manages your comp's heat

I just recieved my 700m yesterday. As much as I looked I cannot find the Speedstep settings within the computer. Can anyone please assist? It's running at 495mhz plugged in. Does it do this to not overheat?

I ran this program for my Inspiron 6000D. I kept clicking on "detect max speed" and it ranged from 1100+ to 1595MHz. The average was around 1300. I guess for a 1600MHz notebook, this is pretty good?
