that came from Dell with Vista and I want to install XP Pro on the 2nd drive and make it a dual boot machine. I'm not as laptop savvy as I am desktop savvy  . This is my 1st Dell laptop (thinkpad T61) and I attempted to boot from the disc drive like you do on a desktop and it won't work, says I have to "remove the hard drive and reboot)? So I went to explorer in Vista and double clicked the XP disc and "install" is grayed out. I'm guessing now that you can't put different OS's on different HD's in Dell laptops like you can on brand whatever desktops. How can I format the 2nd HD and install XP and make a dual boot like my desktop is? Is it not possible? In the "Dell World" am I overlooking something obvious.

It won't let you install from your desktop because it is an older version of Windows. You will need to reboot, boot into disc and install it that way. You will have to figure out how to manage your boot file so that both OSes are available.
