Ok so tell us, how did you get sound out of the speakers? I have pulled down and installed the high audio bus thing and installed the sigmatel drivers for the inspiron 1501, and everything say it's happy but no sound.

    TIA.

I am also curious about the solution....

I have an m1330 and, after lots of swearing and clicking and weeping, I just got drivers installed and "running" on XP. Everything seems to be working except for the sound. It works through the headphones, but the build-in speakers seem to be perpetually silent. Also audio through HDMI doesn't seem to work either.

you all know that dell t/s doens't support non pre installed OS right? they'll have you change back to whatever OS the computer shipped with before assisting you.

was it fixed btw? could have been the internal speakers if earphone port works?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure everybody knows Dell doesn't support this, hence posting here instead of calling Dell ;)

zzxzz says he fixed the problem but didn't take the time to say what he did to solve it... Hope he finds a reason to come back here :(

I have nearly solved everything except for getting sound out of the laptop speakers.

Sorry. I should have chimed as I was able to get this to work today.
    Open your device manager.
Check your warnings. See if there is one by your audio (scroll ALL the way down to confirm).
If there is a problem, right click and tell it to update that driver.
    I was having that problem.
Once that driver is updated you should have sound in the headphones - which most of you seem to have.

    Next... install this:
    http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R153908&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=205136
Should be all set. Mine worked with this combo.

    Hope that helps everyone.

Hey, after a day of searching, I think I finally fixed the problem. See earlier post for fixing sound. (Thanks _RT_)

Basically, you need two files: one for sigmatel, the other for hdmi.
    R156712.EXE
    R153908.EXE

I did not run these files. I extracted them to c:\dell\drivers\r**** and then did an update driver from device manager. Hope this help everyone!

    Amen! What a day!

Found a solution for my 1530 with same problem.
Since the 1330 & 1530 ideally have the same hardware the fix should be the same for you.

System Properties - Hardware - Sound, Video & Game Controllers
Right click on SigmaTel for HIgh Defination Audio CODEC - DISABLE

**DOING THIS WILL RESTART WINDOWS AUTOMATICALLY**

Windows will restart, & my Drivers were installed automatically and your sound should then work.

My disable volume, volume up & volume down button did not work at first, so i just opened up the audio panel & dell quickset & they worked again
