my questions are, how much do you guys think this thing will weigh? I know I added a few extras I wasn't expecting to add..like the 6-cell battery, fingerprint, videocard etc. is that going to make it weigh significantly more? In order to receive the big discount, I wasn't given the option of removing those from my config...or else I would've removed the fingerprint reader. i honestly don't need it, even though it sounds cool.

also I'm not used to looking at the build of laptops. are there specific pics listed somewhere i could look at to make sure my laptop isn't flawed? any suggestions are appreciated. i haven't purchased a laptop in ages. TIA! :D

Well none of those options should make your laptop weigh much more than the standard weight of the M1330 which should be less than 4 lbs (I think). Mine is heavier than that because I got the 9-Cell battery which sticks out of the unit, however I don't think the 6-Cell battery sticks out at all. Also, you have the LED display option which makes it even lighter still.

    Congrats on the purchase! :)

I doubt the additions will add much weight. I packed my m1330 up too...and, it is still very light. The only thing that adds is the battery. I have a 4-cell and a 9-cell and you can tell the difference. But, the laptop is so small, it isn't that bad.

    yay, responses already!

so long as it doesn't go over the 4.5 range im okay. its good to hear the 6 cell doesn't really stick out.

another weird thing that worried me was they stuck the wireless N card on my laptop, is that compatible with the slower/regular wireless connections or no?

I am not sure if this will answer your question, but...

The wireless card doesn't work with older wireless routers. My router is a "b", but the wireless card in the laptop only picks up "g" or "n". So, I need to get a new one. In the meantime, I am able to pick up a neighbors signal. Shhh....don't tell

I have a Wireless G router at my house and it works fine with the N card.

More and more wireless systems are moving to the N phase, and it is significantly faster than G or anything else, so you'll be glad you have the N card in my opinion.

yeah, I actually have a router (I think it's b??) but it's been tucked away for so long b/c we've had a lot of problems with our internet. so any time i'm surfing on my laptop and not directly hooked into the modem with my desktop comp, I just steal my neighbors too lol.

i just looked up the specs on the card

max speed-- 300 mbps, max indoor range-- up to 300
Compatible with current standards plus up to 5X speed and 2X the range of 802.11g with Wireless-N routers3.

so wireless b isnt the current standard anymore? shouldnt it not say up to 300? oh well.

    congrats on your purchase.
you got an AWESOME deal, how???

I wouldn't say the 9 cell adds too much weight but it is noticable (around a pound maybe)

    Issues i believe:
    http://obscurehideout.com/
this guy is picky as hell though.
    some issues i've read about:
    uneven base
    left hinge is loose
    battery is loose
    cpu whine

    My issues:
there is a small gap on the left hinge which i was able to correct (i hope it stays fixed...)
a whiney sound which i hope to GOD that is fixable w/ a new hdd dell's sending. .I hope its not cpu whine. its pretty annoying...

*bookmarked* i'm sure that guy is picky but so long as i have general places to inspect or else ill just be like whatever, its sooo cute who cares. that REALLY helps me out. thank you.

i got a good deal by having ocd, seriously. theres a thread on fatwallet.com which directed me to a deal that's $800 off if you sign up for their 3 year plan plus an 8 percent discount. otherwise, i rang these up w/o and it wouldve cost me 1550 or so, yikes.

i thought i read somewhere the cpus dont whine anymore. i really hope mine doesnt, that sounds *no pun intended* really annoying

The "whine" on mine only seems to happen when it is on a really hard surface. But, when I put it on something, like a book or my lap, it goes away. maybe this is something different?!

As for the wireless, I couldn't get the "b" to work on mine. I talked to Dell tech support, and the guy said I needed a "g" or "n".

If you are able to tap into your neighbor's wireless though, you're good :) I have been doing that for the past week. I am going to get a new router though - I want a secure connection.

One comment, you seem to have upgraded all you can, apart from the processor, was this intentional?
