hey guys... so i ordered a 1520 for my dad b/c he wanted computer for his work. In any case.. its pretty much perfect : lcd is great, no cpu noise like in my vostro 1500, etc...

The only problem is... this damn touch pad... i didnt reinstall vista or anything and the touchpad has been pissing me off all day... basically when i drag my finger across the surface, it will sometimes randomly jump in one direction or another. This is so damn annoying that i keep dropping my folders in wrong locations and such.

Has anyone heard of this before? Can it be the drivers? I mean what the hell is this, ive never had a faulty touch pad before.

Are you sure you're not accidentally touching the other side of it with your other fingers or hand my mistake?

It is possible. Try cleaning it off with a damp cloth - with the machine off.

    Maybe try reinstalling the driver.

Go figure you get a good machine and it has a stupid minor ***** of a problem eh man. lol

    Thank you sir :p

My touch pad has done EXACTLY what you're talking about man. It's so frustrating.

After I took a damp cloth to the touch pad, booted up the machine and washed my hands the problem was gone. lol Strange or what eh..

I could care less myself about the touch pad. It's something I use when I'm somewhere you can use a mouse.. lol I'm an external mouse whore :p

Try an external mouse and see if the cursor still flips around the screen. If it does, then maybe it's Windows.

If you go into the touchpad settings, you can adjust things like sensitivity, pressure, etc. That might help. Also, synaptics recently released a new driver, so maybe that'll make a difference. Good luck :)

Yes, I am having the same problem. I bought my dell 1520 in December 2007 and the touchpad was a problem off and on. I recently send it out to be "fixed" at a dell tech center. However, when it came back to me I was experiencing the same problem. My boyfriend was able to play around with the touchpad settings. Right now it is working fine. I have the touchpad sensitivity right above the light setting. I believe we also disabled the "touch check" feature. Make sure you click "OK" when you are finished. My boyfriend found a bug that if you click cancel or if you go into the touchpad settings but do not change anything and click cancel, it reverts the settings to the default. I have only be using these current settings for about an hour and no problems as of yet. However, we will see how it works over the next couple of days. I do not recommend sending your laptop to dell. I received mine back and it had a nick in the paint on the top of the case. Its nothing to noticeable, but its annoying.

I was looking for the updated driver, but was unable to find it. Could someone provide a link to the updated driver.

Also, have you been experiencing a high pitched noise with your 1520. I heard it is referred to as a "cpu whine." I informed dell of this before sending out the laptop, but nothing was done to fix it.

Good luck with your touch pad.
