i ordered an xps 1530 threw a relative a few days ago and he will probably recieve it on wednesday. the problem is that i will get the pc on feb1.
the question is that what is the best way to keep the notebook dust and scratch free. keep it in the original box or take it out and rake good care of it.
p.s: iknow that taking it out will increase the probability of scratches but im more interested in dust particles

Dust is inevitable. The m1530 should come with a sleeve similar to the m1330, so you could keep it in there when not in use to try minimize the dust however.

the thing is it will not be in use more than once and that will be only to check it the system runs ok.woulnt the protective foam and stuff block the dust

I think what Khris is saying, is that the notebook may come with a protective sleeve, and if that's the case, then you should just store it in that.

That sleeve may not be as durable as some of the more expensive notebook sleeves out there, but it should protect the notebook while it lasts ;). It is also a good idea to clean your notebook once in a while as shown in Cleaning your notebook guide (parts 1, 2, 3, and 4)

A dust ninja. To kill any dust before it lands on your laptop.
    ;P

If the 1530 is anything like my 1720, dust will be a surprisingly small problem. I bring my laptop to work every day. I work in a warehouse. It can get somewhat dusty in here. But much to my amazement, my machine is picking up very little of it.

The glossy screen makes it a lot easier to clean off too :)

I live in a college dorm and dust is a huge problem for my 1520. I "borrow" my roommate's cleaning cloth, wipe the screen and the back cover, and then replace the cleaning cloth before he gets back in the room. Dust is everywhere in my room (we have balls of dust on top of our printer), and naturally my computer picks it up on the screen and the back cover. Nothing a good clean won't fix though...so don't worry about it.

You can get an air purifier to combat the dust.

bad idea. vacuums create static electricity which can be dangerous for electronics.

Wipe it with an antistatic cloth if it gets dusty.

Are you asking what would be more dusty, leaving it in a sealed box or leaving it out on a shelf in your house if your letting it sit for a long time? Do you really need this answered? Seems obvious to me...
