Hi, I've just got a new Latitude (but I've seen this on other newer laptops as well) and the issue that I'm having is that when I'm typing, the quote marks (single or double) do not show up when I type them, but only after typing the next key (usually the space bar, but also could be a letter, as in don't). This means that after I write something in "quotes" I have to press the space bar twice to create one space after the closing quotation mark.

This has also manifested itself in other ways, for example if I type quote and the letter a, it shows up as umlaut a, or ä (see, there it is).

Most of the time this is just annoying, but in some programs I use it simply makes it impossible to continue.

Any ideas on how to turn this "function" off?

    Thanks!
    karianne

It appears to be happening in every program.

yes, even when I type in this forum. I'm on XP pro v. 5.1.2600, using the built-in keyboard and standard software installations.

    example:

I want to type: "about this problem." there doesn't seem to be a solution.

it shows up: äbout this problem."there doesn't seem to be a solution.
