Well I ordered my 1720 on 8/16. At the time I was not aware of the delays Dell was having. I thought I would have my Laptop within 10 Business days as I have ordered desktops from Dell in the past. So I have officially started the dreaded wait.

I didn't care about the Color of the laptop. Black and White had no price difference so I went with Black. After my order was sent in it took only 2 hours for it to be marked as being in the build stage. I was happy I guess. Though I was a little worried of the ESD on my status page(9/7). I decided to chat with a dell CSR. All I asked was, "why would it take almost a month for my order to ship". I was given this response.

Agent: "I can see that you have selected 3-5 business days as the shipping method. Since you are a valued Dell customer, I would make an exception in your case and upgrade the shipping to next business day. This upgrade is $70 approximately, however, this will be free for you"

That wasn't hard. But still I wanted a answer. I let him do his copy/paste of ready responses and then asked again.

Agent: "The estimated ship date is just a conservative ship date for the order and it is quite possible that the order ships before estimated date."
Agent: "In most of the cases the order gets shipped out much sooner than estimated shipping date."

Well we will have to see. I will keep this post updated when things change.

Good to hear. I have been following your status since I joined on the 16th. You being a MI resident like me, you stuck out. I hope I move through this process as fast as you did.

Some updates: Saturday Night I was reading here on the forums. I decided to email Micheal Dell myself. I explained my situation in the email and of the rude CSRs that I have delt with in the short period since ordered. I have not receieved any reply back to date. 8/27. Nor do I expect any.

I in no way know if the email to Mr Dell has helped my order go through to the next stage. Though its worth a shot and cannot hurt.

Well today I called up the Automated Order Status and I was notified that I am in the Boxing state. I am sort of relieved. But reading about the Boxing stage I know it has its own nightmare stories. I will keep updating.

I ordered a Latitude D830 on August 16th going into August 17th and it went into boxing either today or yesterday (the order status number was down).

Just waiting for that next plane out of Malaysia. :D

Nice! I don't know when I hit the boxing stage either cause of the Phone order status issue.

Your specs are so close to mine...must be the screen that's delaying my unit...or they just lost the order altogether.

Flights are going out all this week BB. You will get it soon!

I have one dead pixel. I'll see what I can do about it myself. If it can't be fixed then o well. Its realy tiny and in the corner.

I still have alot of work to do on it. Dual boot - XP and a clean Vista install, Drivers, Memory Upgrade, and Optimization.
