so i have a t9300, nvidia 8600m gt, 3gb inspiron 1720, and theres a problem thats really bugging me. every few seconds the computer freezes, for example, when i hold down any key its really noticeable every few seconds the input will skip. i dont know how else to describe it except choppy and laggy. its especially annoying during gaming. ive tried to search, but came up with no results. ive tried the latest nvidia drivers but to no avail. anyone know why this is occurring?

there could be several thing responsible for such a behaviour. mostly bad drivers could cause this "lagging".

one thing you might try is checking the latency cycles for your laptop. if you have some bad programmed drivers they will cause high dpc´s ( deferred procedure calls).

there is a free program you can use to check for high dpc´s, the dpc latency checker. download that program, and see how high the spikes are.

for xp the spikes should not be higher than 200-300 ( microsoft says the optimum is around 80-120), and for vista it should not be higher than 300-400. if you see much higher latencies you will know that one of the drivers is causing this.

hmm k thanks schoko for the fast reply +info, so i downloaded the dpc latency checker, and im getting a few bars of around 250ish? (green) followed by many yellows around 1000ish (yellow). so is there a way to tell which drivers? thanks again

edit: i followed the instructions on the dpc latency checker site, enabling/disabling various drivers, but none seemed to change the results. however, when i enabled certain drivers the latency rose dramatically to the red, but only once, so im assuming its not the problem

nah, you can not exactly tell the driver. you will have to sort this out manually.

go into the hardware manager. disable the drivers for audio / ethernet / wlan / bluetooth... everything you can enable safely.

when you have done that reboot and check if the dpc latency is back to normal ( 200-300). if thats the case you already know that the device causing the high dpc is among the one´s you have disabled.

enable one device reboot and see if that device caused the high dpc. if it didn´t enable the next device reboot and run dpc latency checker again.

by going though every driver you will find the culprit sooner or later, but in most cases i have seen the wlan or ethernet driver was responsible. so maybe you wanna check them first.

You might try disabling the PCMservice.exe. This is a Cyberlink file installed by Media Direct. It has been known to cause this issue.
