I bought a dell xps m1710 laptop a few months ago, really like it and all, but it was never 100% level on a level table, and it seems to have gotten more pronounced over the last few months..
If you look at it from the front, the front right and rear left seem fine, but the front left and rear right sort of 'rock' if you apply slight pressure to one or the other (up/down).
Now i am not happy with this, is it a legit complaint do you think?
Cheers

It's a build quality problem, yes. I don't know what Dell can/will do for you if you call them up.

it's definitely a legit complaint, but I'm not sure what dell is going to do either. You make it sound like it could be something you've done to the laptop (I'm not saying that you did).
Give 'em a call; they would probably have to give you another laptop. I don't see what else they can do... -
It definately isnt something I have done to it.. What COULD i have done to it to erm.. bend it? I have always treated it with the care you would treat something that costly..
I will give Dell a call tomorrow and see what they say. It seems a reasonable complaint to me, but I just wanted to check some opinions. You would expect something designed to sit on a desk, to do so without wobbling. -
yea sounds legit, and you should get fast response with XPS support. Hopefully the chassis isnt warped, and its just a rubber feet issue...

I would complain but I dout dell will do anything -
Well I spoke to Dell today (Quiet moment in work). Was a nice chap in Ireland (im in the UK).
He said that they cant send an engineer out, because he doesnt feel it can be fixed onsite. So he is sending a courier out to collect it tomorrow, so I will be 5-7 (working)days without my laptop
Still I suppose he could have refused, I was ready for a shouting match if he did though so he got off easy -
glad you got it sorted.
yes, it's def not something they can fix on site, it has to be replaced
now that you have a good experience with dell, i hope the next time someone makes a comment about their service being bad, you can tell them how they hooked you up without any stress. -
When I get it back sorted
Till then, considerring all the bad press Dell get, I will wait and see (hopefully) -
nice to hear that it worked out for you
Btw, small statistic for you: 7 out of 10 ppl will scream yell and complain to others if they get bad service, but only 1 out of 10 will tell others about great experience they had.
So if you have good experience with a company that you like - spread the word!
Especially with dell, because for some reason there are a lot of negative comments out there which don't seem to match up with real people's experiences. -
Well in fairness I have had nothing BUT good service from Dell since I first contacted them about buying a laptop..
The salesman wasnt pushy, offered me an excellent discount, and i got my laptop within a week of purchase.
The courier turned up today as promised with a very well padded box to collect the laptop.. So thus far no complaints.. Will see what happens next -
Okay, so the laptop arrived at Dells support place today, early, got a text to confirm this. Then a few hours later got another to say they have to order parts, 5 days delay on that
Called the xps support chappies, who told me they have ordered a new keyboard and part of the enclosure for the laptop, hence the delay, but he will keep an eye on it and ring me monday whether theres any updates or not..
Just sharing this because of all the negativity there seems to be about Dell, I really havent had a thing to complain about yet (well except for being laptopless for a week or 2).

I spoke too soon..
I have still not had the laptop back, due to delays in waiting for parts (still unsure why a repair center has to order parts in).
I have had problems with people not calling me back, or not wanting to find information for me, including the one and only supervisor i have managed to speak to (cheers for that vincent you lying......).
Finally to top it all off, it appears that they have now lost my notebook, since DHL doesnt have a record of the reference they have for shipping it.. It is apparently being tracked down and I will find out tomorrow morning..
Upside, im getting an AC adapter and spare battery in compensation (probably), but tbh right now im just worried as hell I wont get the machine back...
laptop aint level.. would this be reasonable to call dell about and complain
