my current dell studio 1555 was bought last year July
it is capable of run games in good setting but the graphic card will heat up very fast, whenever the gpu rise to 100C then it will be throttled down and temp drops to 80+C and then back to normal clock speed and repeat
it is very annoying for me :(
besides, even watching HD video the gpu will also rise to 70+C
i have used notebook cooler but no use to gpu
is it safe ? Should i call dell ?

I think your gpu is way too hot, mine started dying ever since I hit 92-94+ celcius.
What kind of laptopcooler did you use? There's a big difference between the mainstream models which belkin and logitech offer, and top quality laptopcoolers like the cryo lx or the zalman coolers.

Personaly, I use a cheap logitech cooler which is kind of useless, but I combine it with ice. I have plastic ice makers/holders (shape of a 2.5 "WD external hard drive) which I put on the place where my laptop becomes the hottest during summer gaming sessions. Though I must warn you to keep a towel nearby, since ice attracts condensation and you don't want any water getting in your laptop.

When your laptop gets hot to the touch near the GPU or hard drive(s) it is so very important to cool it off.
Have we forgotten that these very laptops are "Home" products and not "Business" related.
It is your responsibility to cool them effectively.
My XPS M1330 with a T9300 and 500GB 7200rpm setup it is always too hot.
So I have a high quality cooler with fans that pull the heat down through the cooler and away from my expensive toy.
I also have a nice fan blowing underneath which helps the cooling effect beautifully.

Also, have a voltage switching UPS, as any brown-outs will drop your effective voltage from 120+ to under 100 volts.
And believe me when I tell you this is the guaranteed killer of any electronics!!!
Do whatever you need to do to preserve the integrity of your laptop.

You can extend your models MTBF if you are smart and spend the extra money.

    Good luck to all.

do u guys' touchpad get hot too even with wireless off? to turn it off all u do is fn+f2 right? because to be honest it makes no difference to touchpad temeperature if wireless is on or off.

yeah the main problem is the gpu, cpu temps are decent and my toshiba HD runs very cool. acpi temps might hit mid 50s in games but its ok. gpu runs too hot and if i wanted to i can easily make my laptop force shutdown, which shudnt be possible due to auto-downclocking.

a solution i see other than a very expensive laptop cooler (which doesnt cool the gpu) is to apply new thermal paste to the gpu, but ive never done this before and im scared.

download intel proset/wireless utility from intel site and open wifi event viewer to check whether ur wifi card is throttling or not.

Even I'm getting high temps on my laptop! Very frustrating! While playing games the cpu hits a max of around 90C n GPU around 100C. I have disabled powerplay so it doesn't throttle as such. I have a dell 1558 btw.

I was thinking of a cooler but i don know if it will help all that much! Any quick fixes?

Wat bout thermal paste? how dangerous is it? i'm quite scared to apply it! n it does void warranty right?
