Has anyone heard of lo-jack for software theft of a laptop? I am looking for something that can track my laptop if it is stolen. I understand this works on the BIOS which means it can be un-installed once you reload windows and clear out your hard drive.

I checked with my insurance company and I can pay an extra $5 a month to insure my laptop with a $0 deductible. If it gets stolen, I pay nothing to have it replaced.

Personally I don't trust the promises of lo-jack. I've seen 6 laptops get stolen and none of them got returned via Computrace.

yeah, honestly lojack isnt worth it. you are probably best off like you said and go with your insurance company for that. for me, my best insurance is just being smart with my laptop. not leaving it alone in a busy place etc.

I had read that you can erase your hard drive but it stays in your BIOS and as far as I know there is not way to erase your BIOS 100% and start over BUT I am not a computer guru. I am sure it is like a radar detector....someone has figured out hoe to erase Lo-jack once installed even tho they claim it is impossible.

You can simply re-flash the BIOS. The thing is: it appears to be installed invisibly....so the thief never knows that it is installed and that they are being tracked.
