If the Core 2 Duo is coming out in August when do you guys think Dell will have them in their laptops? I really need a new laptop for college this Fall. Classes will start in early August. Thank you.

Merom is due out around August and it usually takes a couple of weeks to a month before they become available. If you don't need the newest proc, then they have really good deals before the new ones come out, you can pick up the older models for dirt cheap. :p

I'm looking to get the D620 with the Merom processor as it will be much cooler to run than the current one.

Ya. I also think I will limp along with my dad's old Athlon4 pavilion laptop for the first month or two of college if it means snagging a core 2 duo or a better deal on the core duos.

not necessarily. the new merom, depending on chip, will use about the same or more power than the core duo. i don't think that there will be much difference in heat production. though, if you have any information saying other wise, i would love to see it :)

Word on the street is that the new Core 2 Duo will generate less heat and require less power...
If you have some money kicking around, just buy the laptop they are offering now and then install a Merom processor later by yourself...
