i dont know about you but it helps to look at pictures of the notebook before buying it...

pictures could be deceiving like on this case, the case looks like someone went to home depot bought a can of silver paint and sprayed the dorn thing, with a with outline to compliment it all

I wonder how much more it would cost Dell to offer both "artic" silver & additionally -classic black- chassis color options like they often do with HDTVs. I think it would be worthwhile to try & really prefer LCD bezel trim to be black instead of silver-grey to increase contrast with screen content.
I think the artic silver & white bumpers are tacky as well & a disincentive to shell out major cash. It also should have a full size keyboard. My main reason why I have a hard time buying one is all the screen complaints (e.g. light leakage) & the constantly changing GPU options.
Otherwise good bang for the buck however.
I hope they change the design for upcoming 64-bit dual core models. -
I saw the 1705 at a Dell Kiosk in the metroplex last week. This is why we should all visit the kiosk before ordering.

lol this is why companies like apple make so much money. they produce either the same quality product or lower and make it "sexy" looking. look at the Ipod, it took apple 2 years after the first color mp3 players that could play video to duplicate. performance should be number one with price close behind. no one can match dell's performance/price ratio, which is why they stay the number one computer manufacturer.

Where do you find out if Dell has a kiosk near you? I'd like to see it but I don't think there are any out here.....

I do agree Dell does generally have the best price : performance ratio but I feel their quality has been slipping over the years with all the price competition (e.g. the screens on my Dell Inspiron 7000 & SXGA 8000 have zero light leakage vs newer models with many complaints).
Dell also has some of the best marketing contributing to its success but I don't think they should dismiss aesthetics in their design.
I have heard some say the 9200/9300/E1705 is trying to look more like an iBook than a ThinkPad.
I tend to prefer black at the very least along the screen bezel trim to increase contrast with screen content. That would actually be function over form. -
Haven't actually seen two boys $%#*@, but I take it it isn't a pretty sight?
Does Dell charge restocking fee? How's the performance on the thing? -
Called Dell, spoke with a sales rep, and she also couldn't help me. I'm in the Los Angeles area, I'm not in Kansas, but I have no idea where a Dell Kiosk is in my area. -
Although I'd still need to travel 20+ min to get to one to a place I'd otherwise never go.
I'm pretty sure I prefer the good old days when I could order a Dell without paying state sales tax. -
Do the colour kits make much difference to the look? The pics on the website make it pretty hard to tell what exactly they would cover...
