i've read that you get different deals depending on what link you use on dell's website to get to configuration pages. Which link leads to the cheapest configurations?
& is it true that it's even cheaper if you call them and have them configure it with you?

Yes and yes.
The link is on the main page, so you go Dell.com -> small business -> notebooks, look for the brown/orange deal thingy. Click "show more" - it should dhow you all the deals they have, click on the $400 off inspirons (could be a different one since they change all the time).
Thats the "cheapest" link. Remember, the final deal is the one you see when you see it in your cart, don't go by what it says on the side.
And yes, when I called a rep he added free expedited shipping and like $130 off. I can't say for sure it will happen to you, but I don't see why not. I didn't do anything special. -
And you can take a look at the Deals section too.

So what do you think of the spillproof keyboard then?
-
lol. probably a good idea to get one now...

Now as in right now, tonight? Deals change on Thurs according to that Consumerist article. Does the same hold true for Latitudes. Or does anyone know of any special upcoming deals, namely those 30% off coupons again??
I tried calling a week or so again to see if I could get a better deal. The rep seemed to quote me the same price. Do they offer something better when you're actually ready to "seal the deal"?
And for the spill-proof keyboard - can you submerge it under water like that astronaut man did with the ThinkPad in the Lenovo TV ad? -
I really was considering buying one, but am gonna wait for the m1330 to come out just for kicks

Just check again tomorrow. Odds are, at any given time, you'll get a good deal for a Latitude if you hunt for all the bargains. Every once in awhile you might get a super good deal by... ahem... using an EPP discount or getting one of those illegitimate coupons. There's no magic involved, and trust me, Dell is still gonna make a profit off you.
You bring up a good point. When I talked to the rep, I basically said "I'm buying the laptop now" - but at the end said I had to think about it and had him email me the quote. Comes naturally to me so I didn't really think about it, but sure, go ahead and tease the Dell rep. I dunno.
No. I don't recommend ever doing that to any notebook. It's one of those things that look really cool on TV, but just don't look the same in your bathtub. Although if you make a video of it and post it on Youtube I'll definitely check it out.
