Hello All,
I searched and couldn't find a similar problem with a solution. I have three different manufacturer SD cards and when I plug it in the card reader it says it is a Ricoh Xd picture card disk device. If I try to search the contents in explorer it wants to format it.
SD card 1: San Disk 16mb SD card-came with my digital camera
SD card 2: San Disk ultra II 1gb SD card that converts to USB by folding it in half. No problem reading in USB mode.
SD card 3: Micro SD with adaptor 1 gb
I would really like to use the SD reader but for now I have to use USB until I can figure this out.
Thanks in advance,
-

Have you reformatted the computer?

Actually I used the Ghost that dell installs to reset everything on the computer back to default. It still didn't work after that. I checked for new drivers and it says that the ones installed on my computer are the latest. Everything on the profiles says that the device is working properly.
I didn't format the SD card as it was programmed from the factory already. The SD cards work on all of my other devices except on the XPS.
I checked hardware settings and I noticed that under disk drives it reads the hard drive, and Ricoh Xd card reader. Under controllers it has the SD listed only. Is there something on the reader that I can change the settings? I tried downloading the latest driver from the dell site for my particular model and when I run it the comp. says I have the latest drivers. -
I called Dell XPS support and they are going to send a tech to replace my motherboard since the reader is part of the motherboard.
In the past three months I have had media direct problems (fixed with GHOST reformat HDD), blue screen of death "memory dump" (no fix happens when it wants to) and the sd card reader being the latest. Hopefully the new motherboard will deter future problems. -
wow, talk about quick turn around. I got a call this morning and the tech came over and swapped the board. Everything is up and running. He also showed me how to get to the memory on the M1210 in case I wanted to upgrade my memory in the future. It also turned out that the tech lived just about a few blocks over.
Cheers, -
oho......
Have you tried to reinstall the lasted driver of 5-1 card reader after uninstall the old driver? -
yes, I tried that. The tech tried that as well. He did some checking and said that it was the motherboard.
