I'm running XP on my m1210 that I bought last summer. I currently have 1GB of RAM in 2 512MB sticks. I am debating now whether or not to upgrade to 2GB of ram. Things to consider:

    (1) cost - not a big issue because of current deals on memory,
    (2) hassle - I don't know how I feel about prying off the keyboard to get at the 2nd memory module
    (3) performance benefit - is it worth it?

I would very much appreciate the opinion of anyone who has done this or simply has something to say about it. Thanks!

Yes it is worth it. Extra ram is always worth it! The price of 1GB sticks are cheap nowadays. So go get yours!

I always opt for more RAM. With current memory prices, 2GB is certainly worth the cost. There will be a noticeable performance difference; however mostly depend on how you use the system. If you just do simple tasks like internet, e-mail, office stuff on XP; and have no plans to upgrade to Vista then even 1GB is sufficient.

Nevertheless I still recommend the upgrade.

Here is a link to the service manual, which guides you on how to replace memory modules. And here, you can find a comprehensive guide with lots of photos on how to change memory modules (including the one under the keyboard) of a Latitude D630; but the process is exactly the same for a M1210.

I just doubled the RAM on our newly arrived M1210 from 1GB to 2GB. The performance difference is quite noticable in Vista. Programs start much faster. My guess is that XP would not benefit quite as much, but RAM is a bargain at the moment, so why not go for it?

Removing the keyboard sounded daunting, but it was actually no big deal.
