As indicated, I received a Samsung LCD in my xps m1210 (SEC3157 in Powerstrip) - definitely QUITE vibrant, lots of contrast, and extremely bright (I find it most comfortable atm two notches down from the top). Black isn't very black on the bottom of the screen (depending on angle - vertical viewing angle is pretty picky), although nothing is noticeable under normal usage.

Unless I'm just tired, I wouldn't say it has the sharpest picture ever, but its pretty great. Also, viewed at strange angles, there are strange diagonal jagged lines running horizontally across the screen, but those are totally invisible (AFAICT) under normal circumstances.

    So, Samsung! How about yours?

Mine is an AUO. I'll say my 700m's LCD is a whole lot better.

Mind posting some pics of the Samsung screens.... I'm not too pleased with my AUO, even though my 700m also uses the AUO. The AUO on my 700m seems way better than the AUO on my M1210. Wonder what's up with AUO, maybe their standards have dropped??? Guess I play with my M1210 for a few more days & if I still are not satisfied, then it's going back to Dell...

I was reading on another forum that it might be possible to put a 700m LCD on the m1210? If so, I might go ahead and get a screen off ebay and install it.

I'm sure its possible, will void your warranty. If your not satisfied with the screen, return it or ask dell for another screen.

I just received my M1210 and the screen is no where near the quality of my 700m. I have not determined the LCD mfg yet on the M1210, but I'm guessing it's an AUO based on comments here.

My biggest complaints are that the screen looks washed out at all brightness levels and the vertical viewing angle issue where black looks white at the bottom or top depending on which angle you are viewing. Also, the whole LCD panel is slightly crooked just enough to be annoying.

The screen issues are a deal-killer for me so the M1210 is going back. I can't decide if I should return for a refund or exchange it for another model in hopes that I get the better Samsung LCD.

Any recommendations? Is the Samsung LCD that much better? And what are the odds that I actually get one?

It's a shame that Dell paired such a cheap LCD with an excellent graphics card. I'm really tempted to swap my 700m's perfect LCD with the M1210. How would swapping screens void the warranty? Is there a warranty sticker somewhere? Since both screens are Dell, how would they even know?

Yeah, they can't tell that you replaced the screen unless you send it back to them for some reason with the different screen... I got the m1210 becuase it is only like $300 more than the 700/710m and the CPU/vid card is so much better. But I'm very tempted to either return it and get a 710m or just buy a 700/710m screen and put it on the m1210. From what I read, the screen that laptop used is ALOT better.
